MAUBY
BEVERAGE
PACKAGING
I was tasked with fully designing and building packaging for a unique beverage
of my choice. I selected Mauby, a drink popular in the Caribbean Islands but not very well known outside of the West Indies.
Mauby is a refreshing staple everywhere
from Trinidad to Cuba, and is often homemade from snakewood bark and other spices such as cinnamon and star anise.

PROCESS
IDEATION
I began by researching Mauby and it's history in the Caribbean, then compiled 3
style boards to help me decide which visual direction I wanted to take. In the end
I decided to base my designs on my second mood board - I liked the idea of
using natural imagery and focusing on elements related to the drink itself.

SKETCHES
I did a lot of sketching of potential logos and packaging ideas.
I experimented with more bubbly, organic looking hand drawn text and also
tried to find ways to incorporate relevant imagery such as snakes, the snake
wood tree, and the Caribbean islands.

DRAFTS & DIELINES
I created the dielines and several prototypes of my beverage packaging before finalizing the visuals. Building smaller versions helped me perfect the final dieline.

FINAL DIELINE

FINAL PACKAGE
After lots of drafts and redesigns, I finalized my packaging. It was
wonderful becoming a bit more familiar with a culture I knew very
little about, and to find new sources of design inspiration.
